People, Christmas is on Tuesday!! Why did nobody warn me? How on earth did it sneak up on me so quickly? Oh wait I know, it’s because despite my earlier declarations of getting an early start I actually only started one thing and then completely ignored the jingle bells until December. Now, I know many of you will be aware of this already but that is far too late to begin making Christmas presents for your friends and family! My grand handmade Christmas presents plan had to be rapidly downscaled. Instead of making handmade cards I bought some charity ones to give to friends and family and focussed solely on ensuring that everyone gets at least one handmade thing in their gift. For my Mum & her partner it was this crochet throw blanket,
For my sister it was a very cute hat and mitten set (which I forgot to photograph before wrapping-raging!) and I’ll be forwarding her bike pannier bags once I actually finish them in the New Year. For my Dad and his wife, and all the inlaws I am making up Christmas hampers with lots of goodies in them including Cranberry Curd, Lemon Curd, Scottish Tablet, Peppermint Creams, Turkish Delight, Treacle Toffee, Honeycomb and Chocolate Truffles. These hampers ensure that my kitchen becomes a sweet smelling wee factory for a few days but they are always so well received I can’t not give them as gifts. This is the last of my Christmas making and I am happy to see that wee light at the end of the tunnel!
Now, I’ve made a promise to myself that I will be better next year and that I’ll start making Christmas presents in October but we all know what happens to the best laid schemes!
What did you guys do for your handmade Christmas gifts? I’m sure you were all much more organised than I was!
I’ve finally gotten around to updating my shop and have just uploaded some sweet button jewellery. Don’t forget that until Tuesday you can get 15% off EVERYTHING with the code TALKT15. I’ve still to upload the cushions and some more collars from my stall but please keep your eyes peeled and I’ll update you when everything is on there. Apologies for everything coming in drips and drabs, I’m much better at making things than I am at photographing and listing them!
So, for Take a Look Tuesday this week I decided to have a wee pre Christmas sale and for one week only, everything in my shop on Etsy will have 15% discount with code TALKT15. Don’t forget that as all of my items have free UK & Ireland postage this means there are some real bargains to be had!
I’ve also got some lovely items left over from the market at the weekend to add tonight.
Here’s a quick sneak peek at some of the things I’ve been making for my first stall at a craft fair. I’ve made lots of collars but I thought that I should also make some lower priced items to add variation and choice for buyers so I decided to make some jewellery.
First up, sticking with the crochet I made some crochet rose rings and brooches.
I also have a hefty supply of fabric and some of it has been sitting in my stash for ages, too big to throw away and too small to really make anything with. However, they are ideal for these button ear rings and rings.
After the market I will list anything that hasn’t sold onto my Etsy Shop.
This week I’m recommending an all round great website called Glasgow PodcArt. This website celebrates all of the creative industries. However their main focus is the local music scene. What I have been loving about this site this week is the shop local at Christmas campaign they have been supporting. This is something you may have seen doing the rounds on social media but essentially it is a campaign to encourage people to buy their Christmas gifts from local businesses and sole traders online rather than the massive global companies it’s all so easy to buy form. The idea is that if we buy from small traders everyone will have a great Christmas this year.
So this week I’ve been starting to think about what I’m going to make for people for Christmas and how best to present it, I guess that’s influenced this weeks Pinterest Picks.
First up is this beautiful wrapping, I love music and so do my friends so I think this could be a great way to wrap this years presents!
Next up, I’ve been making lots of tree decorations and I though that they could double as gift tags, this selection could be used for either and are very sweet!
Another great use of my tree ornaments could be this lovely chain.
